ABOUT US

‘Project Pustak’, an initiative inspired by the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and ‘Padhega India, Badhega India’ campaigns, is a nation-wide service that sets up libraries in underprivileged schools, orphanages, old-age homes, and other public centres in order to promote education and learning. In line with the Sustainable Development goals set out by the United Nations, it seeks to use second-hand material and equipment to institute these libraries instead of squandering funds on purchasing such educational resources that lie unused in several households. We aspire for books to be coated in daylight and not dust, so a surplus of them in homes can be used to fill the voids that deficit and poverty leave behind.

In order to bring about this surge of change, our team has organised collection drives of second-hand books, novels, magazines and various literary journals from schools, colonies and residential spaces in more than 40 cities and is diligently setting them up in locations of the above description. We have collaborated with NGOs and various institutions to increase our reach and have over 60 ambassadors and volunteers working to this effect.

Additionally, we have even organises book-reading, poetry-recitation, dictionary-reading and similar workshops and sessions in these locations as another dimension to our work in order to make learning an enriching experience. We believe that this interaction is vital to instil an importance and sense of appreciation for education in the underprivileged community.

We thank our corporate partners for providing us with funding and operational support for this endeavour.

In order to expand this initiative, we have reached out to students pan-India and are targeting every city in the country so as to empower the underprivileged. We have already reached 40 cities in over 13 states and have had 2 international outreaches in Nepal and Azerbaijan. Our aim is to enhance the educational experience of students throughout the horizons of this country and beyond. We wish to contribute significantly to the scope of knowledge and education by broadening their insular paradigms.

OUR VISION

India is a diverse country- a tapestry sewn in several threads and colours. However, amidst these pulsing pleats of gaiety also lies the threadbare reality of our nation. The literacy rate of India is as low as 74.04%. Even within this literate pool, there is a fair share of literacy that is not harboured or honed. The state of education in the lesser privileged and public centres closely adheres and limits itself to the precincts of syllabus-oriented education. This makes learning a restrictive and mundane exercise without much scope of discovery or inspiration.

Our goal, as a nation-wide service that sets up libraries in lesser privileged institutions, is to improve the educational experience of students of all ages- be it pre-schoolers or octogenarians. By providing books that don’t simply abide by the statutes of courseware, we wish to make learning fun and attach a sense of appreciation and intrinsic value to it.

Keeping in mind the ignorance and dearth that plagues the communities we are targeting, we organise events, workshops and sessions in various cities through our team of volunteers so as to apprise our audience of the value of education and para-curriculum learning. These workshops are an inseparable part of the change and seek to foster the right kind of attitude towards education.

Our books are all sourced through collection drives from entities that have used it previously. Thus, consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals, we have recycled old books and educational resources instead of divesting funds to fulfil the same aim. We deeply appreciate all those who have collaborated, coordinated and cooperated with us to make this world a better place.
